What is Dayforce Strategic Workforce Planning?
Dayforce Strategic Workforce Planning — often shortened to SWP — helps leaders plan the shape, cost and skills of their future workforce, and model changes before they commit to them. It is an add-on within Dayforce’s Planning and Analytics area.
The problem it solves
When workforce data is locked in spreadsheets, and planning only happens once a year, leaders cannot see the full picture. Small gaps in staffing or budgets quietly turn into costly mistakes, and when conditions shift — economically, technologically, or because of a reorganisation — the plan is already out of date. SWP exists to make planning continuous, shared and grounded in real data.
How it works
- Scenario modelling. Model your future workforce by role, layer, location and cost, then simulate changes — spans of control, leadership layers, turnover, hiring, productivity — and see the impact before you act.
- Real-time, trusted data. Because SWP runs on the same engine as your Dayforce HR, scheduling and payroll, your headcount and cost data is always current. You can also bring in financial and external data for a fuller view.
- AI support. AI insights and natural-language “what-if” prompts let teams test different organisation designs quickly, with coaching that flags issues like costly layers or misaligned spans of control.
- Shared and accountable. HR, finance and business leaders work from one view of the plan, tied to the goals and results that matter, so everyone is aligned.
- Ready to present and act on. Plans can be exported to slide templates for leadership, and a chosen plan can be published back into Dayforce as an executable change.
When organisations use it
SWP is useful for workforce restructuring, organisation-health reviews, planning the impact of AI on roles, mergers and acquisitions, and ongoing headcount planning. It is aimed at senior HR and people leaders — think CHRO, VP of HR, or heads of workforce planning and organisation design — working alongside finance.
