What is Dayforce?
Dayforce is a single cloud platform for managing the whole working life of your people - from hiring and HR records to scheduling, time, pay, benefits and talent. Rather than stitching together separate systems for each task, Dayforce brings them together in one place, working from one set of employee data.
The category it sits in is usually called HCM, short for Human Capital Management. That is simply the umbrella term for the technology an organisation uses to recruit, manage, pay and develop its workforce.
What makes Dayforce different
Most HR and payroll systems are built as separate modules that pass data between each other in batches. Dayforce was designed around one continuous engine and one database. In practice, that means a change made in one area — a new starter, an approved shift, a pay rise — flows straight through to everything else, with no overnight syncs or re-keying.
The clearest example is payroll. In a traditional system, you only find out what people will be paid once the pay period closes and the numbers are run. Dayforce calculates pay continuously through the period, so you can see and check results as you go, and catch issues early rather than in a last-minute scramble.
What you can do with it
Dayforce covers a wide span of HR and payroll work, including:
- Core HR records, organisation structure and self-service for employees and managers
- Payroll, including global payroll across many countries
- Workforce management — forecasting demand, scheduling, and tracking time and attendance
- Benefits administration
- Recruiting, onboarding, performance, learning and succession
- Planning, analytics and a growing set of AI features
You can read more about each of these in our guide to what modules Dayforce includes.
Who it suits
Dayforce is aimed at medium and large organisations, and it is a particularly strong fit if you employ shift-based or frontline workers, operate across more than one country, or have outgrown a patchwork of separate HR and payroll tools. Dayforce has been named a Leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Cloud HCM Suites for large enterprises for several years running.
As with any platform, it is not the right answer for everyone — the value comes from bringing things together, so the more of your people processes you run in one place, the more you get back. We help organisations work out whether that fit is there before they commit, which we cover in [is Dayforce right for your organisation].
