What is Dayforce Workforce Management?

Dayforce Workforce Management (often shortened to WFM) is the part of Dayforce built for planning and managing shift-based and frontline teams. If your business depends on having the right people, in the right place, at the right time, this is where a lot of the value sits.

What it covers

Workforce Management spans three connected jobs:

  • Plan accurately. Forecast demand, plan and budget your labour, and build schedules that match what the business actually needs.
  • Execute efficiently. Balance staffing across locations, manage time and attendance through modern time clocks or self-service, handle absence, and keep on the right side of local and industry-specific rules.
  • Engage and retain. Give frontline workers fair schedules, the ability to bid for and swap shifts, and mobile self-service wherever they are — while managing fatigue and overtime to prevent burnout.

        Why it matters

Without the right system, managing a flexible workforce usually means spreadsheets, paper or ageing software — slow, error-prone, and with little visibility to manage change. That carries real risk: overpaying eats into profit, underpaying invites disputes, and getting compliance wrong can be costly. It also wears people down, which feeds turnover.

Dayforce’s own data points to meaningful gains here — it reports a large reduction in the manager effort needed to build schedules, and lower voluntary turnover for companies using Dayforce compared with their industry peers. As always, treat vendor figures as a guide rather than a guarantee, but the direction makes sense: better tools mean less admin and a better experience for staff.

        Built for compliance across borders

For organisations operating in many countries, Dayforce provides coverage and local expertise across a wide range of jurisdictions, including industry-specific rules such as union rates and tip pooling. That takes a lot of the fear out of expanding into new locations.

        How Silver Cloud can help

Getting workforce management right is as much about your rules, processes and culture as it is about the software. We help organisations configure Dayforce WFM to reflect how they actually run — and to strike the balance between control, cost and a fair deal for employees.
